If you are organizing a tour to Himachal Pradesh, then Chamba located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh state, deserves a place in your plan.
A destination of unfiltered mountain views, charming riverside villages, slate-roofed hay barns, walking trails and inviting forests all come together in a delightful region known as the Bhandal valley- home to the high-altitude wildlife sanctuary known as the Gamgul Siyabehi Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, in Maira, district Chamba is our charming little village where the property is located.
The area has historically been cited as ‘the garden of Chamba’, the valley situated on the right bank of the Ravi river which separates it from the main district, creating a world of its own.
Built in the mid 60’s, this vintage Jaadooghar property is truly a work of enterprising Himalayan artistry. Built purely out of stone and wood, this property emanates an old world charm. It was previously occupied by the Forest department till the 80s, after which the cottage regained its intended role as a base for an apple plantation and has now been restored as a homestay.
The list of fruiting plants and vegetables grown here is endless.
Around 80% of what you find here is sourced locally. The lodge offers something that is all too quickly disappearing: peace, stillness, and an opportunity to disconnect with the outside world while reconnecting with nature, a different culture and with yourself.
While the lodge is set in an orchard and in terms of acreage it is huge, the number of actual guests rarely exceed 8, making for a very personalized and intimate experience!

Treks & hikes
There are a plethora of walking trails in and around the location. One can spend their time walking through the apple orchard around the cottage or simply walk down to the river for some quiet time. You can also opt for a guided trek organised by the property hosts along with a packed picnic basket for your excursion!
Jaadooghar Recommends: On special request, the host can arrange for a bonfire at additional cost. Nothing can be more perfect than spending time with your loved ones beside the bonfire and enjoying a cup of tea!

The lodge is equipped with four well-appointed rooms with all basic conveniences. The rooms are well heated. Also, there are two spacious living rooms, a functional kitchen, and a plenty of outdoor recreational areas. The Double Room can host 2+1 guests, while 6+2 guests can be accommodated in Entire Cottage.

LOCATION KNOW-HOW
Located at a distance of about 118 kms from the Pathankot Railway Station and 185 kms from Gaggal Airport, the property can be reached by getting a local taxi or bus from the station/airport. It can also be reached via road from Delhi, which is at a distance of about 625 kms. It is located at a distance of 54 kms from Bhuri Singh Museum and 41 kms from Bhalei Mata Temple, which are few of the main attractions in Chamba.
HOUSE RULES AND THINGS TO NOTE
Please note that Jaadooghar Maira is located in a quaint small village where labour is less and things are more difficult to arrange compared to a city. The cottage is a 5 minute walk (350 meters) from the main road. The property is built on a slope and you would need to climb stairs to reach your rooms and dining space. There will be harmless insects and flies in and around the property especially during the monsoon season due to the flora.
All meals are included in the accommodation charges however, meals are served as per a fixed menu. Any changes to the menu or extra order would be chargeable. Meals are served within set timings- Breakfast: 9-10 AM; Lunch: 1-2 PM; Dinner: 8-9 PM.
Please also note – no shoes are allowed inside the rooms or any of the indoor areas. Food is served in common living areas and not allowed inside the bedrooms.
Rooms are cleaned thoroughly before your check-in and therefore no room service or housekeeping services can be arranged during your stay.
There are quiet hours post 10 PM.
